Legends of the fall

Sorry, cheesy title. Couldn’t resist the temptation. Anyway, I decided to make a move on the blog, otherwise I’d be writing a 3-in-one.

In October we read The Scarlet Pimpernel. A sweet book, about the French revolution about an English aristocrat who makes the most fantastic rescues. I enjoyed the read very much, but, ultimately, it left not that much to talk about.

In November it was The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair. This is the first translation, but it read like a book originally written in English, among other things because it is set in the USA. The novel is really a book within a book and has a new twist about every 80 pages, so-much-so that I am now at a loss to write up a summary. It was a story that carried you along, though, and not a difficult read.

Upcoming:

15 DecemberBrother of the More Famous Jack by Barbara Trapedo

26 January: The Mill on the Floss by George Eliot

Janine has requested Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh. Please do bring along some ideas. My reading this past month or two includes The Taliban Cricket Club (Timeri N. Murari), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime (Mark Haddon), A Paris Wife  (Paula McLain), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (John le Carré).
